We also could have had our law enforcement needs served by a far more professional police agency, the Kennebec County Sheriff's Department. Agreeably, the EMS people did need expanded facilities although I would have preferred doing what other towns have done. Manchester, did for example, contract with a private EMS service and the Town Manager told me it is far less costly and happy with the service. Making improvements at the fire station is the worst sham of all. It is not uncommon for 6-7 of these worthless fire firefighting units and their costly equipment to show up at a fire scene using their greatest skill - poring water on the ashes and creating a mess. Have a chat with a clean up company and let them enlighten you as to the final cost of cleaning up the mess left by firefighters. Volunteer firemen save nothing - I repeat - they save nothing. A group of boy scouts armed with squirt guns could easily replace them. But truly folks, a single professional regional fire department is really the way to go if you wished to be "hosed." And remember, it is we the people who pay for government extravaganza - and the self-servers will always be "wanting" more than we "need."report abuse
