Here's the sad part: I sat at work and listens to two coworkers discuss how they get around income requirements in order to be approved for heating assistance, lie about having a spouse/partner who more than doubles their income and show only their regular check sans monthly commissions. It's this sense of entitlement that drains the system and makes it more difficult for the people who truly need help. The state of Maine website gives no clear link to reporting this kind of abuse so you sit by helplessly watching people bilk the system. I am growing ever pessimistic about social services and the kind of people who burden our paychecks. Is it any wonder?report abuse
