I don't often comment online, however I have two comments to this posting.

#1 - I am 50 years old and run circles around many of the 20 and 30 years olds I work with every day. I work 50 - 55 hours a week; they're lucky if they hit 40 hours. I have been with the same company for 2.5 years and have not called in sick once. Two of my teammates (ages 29 & 36 - neither of whom have children) are out sick at least once a month. My colleagues come to me, not them, when they want to make sure something gets done. I am an IT project manager in a professional position so we are not talking about a low stress position. Many middle age people have a work ethic that many 20 & 30's year olds cannot even comprehend. We also bring a level of maturity, experience and pride in a job well done, that younger people do not always have. I have nothing against younger people, I am simply saying that older people have much, and sometimes even more, to offer as well.

#2 - I visit Starbucks in Phoeinx about four times a week. I have seen people working there who appear to be in their 40's and 50s'. One store has a "legally blind", 50+ year old woman working for them. She has a tag that says "I am legally blind" and she is one of the best cashiers/barista's I've ever encountered.

Don't be so quick judge people and situations where you do not have all the information.

rapidreader: Starbucks is an American company, founded in Seattle, Washington. Tim Horton's is the Canadian company, founded in Hamilton, Ontario. Guess you have been going to the wrong coffee shop!!!!! Anyway, I have been following this story and this lady has served as a barista in other restaurants for many years. I do believe Starbucks discriminated againt her because of age. I have NEVER seen an "older" person in any Starbucks shops I have been at. Most range in age from 22-35/36.report abuse

To Franco of Richmond, what have you got against people that are 56 yrs old? I'm older than that and I know I can outwork your liberal butt. Walk a mile in her shoes before you pass judgement. It's not about age, it's how you feel. Besides Starbucks is the worse coffee in the country, it always tastes burnt. They deserve a lawsuit just for selling that crap.report abuse
