Even though I don't really know anything about this man called Steve Wessler, he most likely is a fine upstanding human being with good intentions in life. But I can't help but wonder if he would have been alarmed or offended if he had seen the letters NAACP sprayed somewhere on the trail and would he have called the police on a matter like that? Would he have been as alarmed at seeing some of the images that many police officers have tattooed on their arms? I think people have a better chance of being assaulted or damaged by some of those armed thugs than someone posting graffiti.
Even though Wessler most certainly does have a right to express his opinions and concerns in life, I think indeed that this may well be just another mountain being made out of a molehill. Kids will often do acts of graffiti like this without realizing the full implications of the racially offensive nature of their actions.
I was walking on the rail trail from Hannaford's in Gardiner to Farmingdale where a friend of mind was waiting to pick me up a couple of months ago and as I recall, there were one or two of these unauthorized letterings in that section of the trail too, but I didn't feel as though they were disturbing enough to warrant calling the police, but to each his own I guess.report abuse
