Ice Hockey is a sport that seems to be on the decline. NHL ratings have always been low and game attendance is often weak, but Maine has a tradition of talent. The girls could have a free ride at a college scholarship if recognized at the HS level.report abuse
Congratulations to Mr. Fortin and the Winthrop High School Girls Hockey Team for finally being recognized as a varsity team.report abuse
On the other hand, hockey is an incredibly expensive sport. Given the state of school budgets instead of adding teams perhaps we should be unlisting the other teams. Perhaps however booster clubs are paying for it???
I'm not one of those anti-school sports nuts. But some sports are just alot more expensive. Lets face it.. a ball and a couple goal nets are alot cheaper than all the expensive protective gear and ice arena rentals.report abuse
