They never say how many die with their seat belt on. Negative publicity to do gooder campaigns.
If they came out and said that seatbelts make little difference how many would wear them anyway for the false sense of security? About 56%.report abuse

"In a survey of almost 21,000 drivers and passengers in 10 counties, 83 percent of them were found to be compliant with the state's seat belt law."

We cant afford to pay the "seat belt TAX".

"Of those 105, 59 of the victims were not wearing their seat belts," Stewart added.

The Kennebec Commuter is no mathematician, but we figure that comes to 56 percent, which is more than half.

Oh boy, that's a big percentage. The Yankee Biker is not much of a mathematician either, but 56 percent is no better than a coin toss.

Jerry Nault, you bring up another good point.

All this article does is to prove that statistics are no longer used as research, but are used by proponents of an issue to "prove" that they are right.

The KJ is so biased that I can only look at the web site a couple of times a week. I used to buy the paper every day but watched the change from journalism to unapologetic editorializing loosely disguised as news.report abuse

Fewer motor vehicle deaths in Maine may also be attributed to less travel on state roads and folks driving at relatively slower speeds. We know the former is happening because DOT will collect fewer dollars for road work from the gas tax. Anecdotal evidence suggests the latter is taking place. If you drive slower your mileage improves and you have to buy less fuel.report abuse
