3 years ago this didn't look as bleak as it does now with the banking & housing crisis and the recession. At this point the towns of Brunswick, Topsham and Lisbon Falls have to worried especially witht he domino effect this is going to have on small business and property taxes. Towns get money from the Feds for each military kid in school and when that ends they are going to have to get that from somewhere else and in most cases it comes from property taxes.
I'm sure there are many folks renting in Portland that would love to buy a house in the Brunswick area but with banks not loaning money like they use to that may be a few years away from happening too.
Businesses will have to be able to survive 2 years of hard times before it get's better. Now if BIW runs into hard times and has work stoppages
and big layoffs we could see a catastrophic situation that takes 10 years to recover from.report abuse
