On the other side, we have more and more people receiving the diagnosis of cancer both young and older. Cancer leaves it mark on every family in some form or another. Many times the diagnosis comes late and the end result is not that favorable. Having a local cancer center certainly makes it so much easier for families to obtain the state of the art treatments that they need. But when those treatments dont respond then the people in this area have fewer options. This area would benefit so much by having a Hospice House to help those unfortunate patients who dont respond to treatments. This House would give families a place to be without the hospital setting. Home Health hospice does a tremendous job with people who want to die at home but many families are unable to provide the 24 hour care. I hope that with the State of the Art cancer Center, we can move forward in providing a different option for cancer patients and familis by exploring a vision of a Hospice HOuse.
Auburn Maine has a wonderful Hospice House and families who have experienced the care there, will agree that it is time for Augusta to move forward with another option for end of life care.report abuse
