Things wont change until Cornelia is fired. If you look at her new programs, they appear to be approved so that her youngest child can have a school based babysitter. And take away Cornelia's car. She can be just like the rest of us and buy her own vehicle. Augusta Schools are in trouble and trouble starts at the top. It is time to get rid of what is left of the good old boys and girls and come back to basics. Start with getting rid of dead weight...report abuse

Trust me no extra money here. I bust my rosy bottom cheeks to keep what I have. What I was saying was a pay to play program may be needed, and I as a single mother with a child who plays sports would find a way to pay for him to play. It will keep him from playing video games after school while I work. I was also saying that those with no children who think the school system isn't their problem are wrong. The education of these children is everyone's problem as a community. Those of us in Augusta are a community, a dysfunctional community, but still we are still one. If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem; seems those in the higher levels of our government who are quick to cut below them and not make some personal sacrifices are part of that problem. Why did it get so bad so fast that all of a sudden they need to quickly close a school anyways? They had always talked about it, but it seemed like there was time to build and plan. Someone messed up bad somewhere...report abuse

Excellent story Matt. Hard to swallow, cuts, eh? But they are here to stay for a while. I get a kick out of one of your readers blaming Democrats, chuckle. Have they read the little book which I just received as a gift -- Goodnight Bush? Well, before he goes/will go he has along with his administrations, both with their own brand of uncertain vote counging, created the financial crises we are in. Where are those readers who vote him in twice, now, eh? I guess they are just wanting to blame Democrats for Bush and what he has done to America and the World. I saw him give a speech today before the group of 20. His long oration about problems could easily be his legacy when written in the future by objective historians. Sad day that he came to power. Sadder that he was allowed to use his power in the way he has. God bless the Democrats.

I solved the problem of the Augusta Schools I moved to Oakland. Augusta School are now a business. Run without heart and the bottom line is the only thing that counts. Wake up Augusta get involved with your schools. You have let everyone else do your talking and the decisions, time to take control. One of the suggestions was maybe the higher ups should take a pay cut. bottom line should be perhapps when your schools are not that very far apart a car should not be leased for someone or anyone for that matter in the Augusta local Government. This luxury cannot be afforded anymore. I remember my grandmother telling me that during the depression that higher ups were laid off first because it kept more people working that way so only one person had to be laid off to save several jobs. Maybe one Pricipal for two schools, one Special Education Teacher for two schools, no Asst. Special Ed Director or Asst Supt. A company to do the payroll, their are lots of other things that could be done before laying the little people off. I am sure that G. Nye would never have done that! He would have taken a cut in pay first he loved the kids he loved his people and most of all he loved his community!report abuse
