Eliminating the Legislature would be the best thing the state has ever done. They do what they want and completly ignore the wishes of the Maine people. They had the chance to do something about Tax increases and Taxes and they did nothing but raise more taxes and Fees to pay for the Welfare class. Kick them all out and let the Taxpayers make the decisions as to who gets what.report abuse

The three petitions by the Heritage Policy Center are dangerous enough but not mentioned is the danger of continued attempts to eliminate the Maine Legislature. I do not believe that "Citizens Petitions" should take the place of the authority we give to our Representatives in the Legislative and Executive branchs of our Goverment to represent the people. If Citizen Petitions continue we may as well close the State House.report abuse

Well here we go again! Another initiative to cripple our municipal services beyond what they already are. Lets just cut the entire municipal budget in half and see if the people will just donate their time and provide better services to all of us. On the other hand, I'm sure my town would still buy usless huge red vehicles that we don't need in order to satisfy the little man egos that would otherwise have their budgets cut.report abuse

The 10 Cannots

By William J. H. Boetcker
(wrongfully attributed to Abraham Lincoln)

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence.

You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.

You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.

You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.

You cannot establish security on borrowed money.

You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves.report abuse
