I'm sure we can look forward to our professional lawmakers voting to cut their own pay by limiting the number of days the legislature can be in session..And if you believe that one please get in touch with me because I can give you a great deal on a slightly used bridge.report abuse

I'm sure that the Maine legislature will be focusing hard and fast on the massive subsidies lavished on the Maine Maritime Academy. The $8,000,000 in taxpayer expenditures spent on educating aggressively recuited out-of-state students (that leave and never return after graduation) and the $1,600,000 2007 illegal purchase for a new mansion for the president will be scrutinized by those in the education sector being hard hit by cut-backs. Ya, like the MMA needs a $million plus alumni center for 200 students graduated each year.report abuse

Our current legislators on both sides of the aisles are a big part of the reason for our state's wasteful spending habits. They should leave their egos at home, and remember who they are supposed to represent while under the dome. Libby Mitchell and Hannah Pingree are two of the most guilty folks, but there is plenty of blame to go around.

For example, why did the legislature spend more than a million of our tax dollars on the fancy landscaping/sidewalks/water fountain/new parking lots? That money should have been used on something more important for the taxpayers like fixing a dangerous bridge or bad section of road. Two other areas of legislative expenditures which deserve scrutiny are their meals and hotel cost reimbursement with no proof of payment. Certain legislators are taking advantage of special deals, and the taxpayers are getting hosed. A detailed audit would reveal who these crooked and unethical politicians are.

Thanks to the good people at MHPC, a new website (http://www.maineopengov.org)
will help taxpayers see what our monies have been wasted on. It's time for the wasteful spending habits by both sides of the aisle to be stopped, and we finally have a tool that will help us hold our so-called "state leaders" accountable for all of their bad decisions.report abuse
