The fact is that this merger can be voted against by the members of KV, and should be. Credit union members can use the bank now if they choose. All this merger would do is reduce the number of choices for KV members from a credit union and a bank to just a bank. I hope the reporter continues to look at this and report more on "who" really benefits from this proposal. i'll give him a hint - it's not members of the credit union like my parents have been since 1975- it's the credit union president and board chair who would both be getting nice and comfortable paid positions with the bank and on its new board. my mom is ready to ask the credit union's leaders these questions. Members can stop this - they have in other states! Ms. Beaucage obviously forgets the credit union belongs to the members; it's not her own personal business.report abuse

It was the merger of all those banks and Interstate Banking that got us into this mess.
Both credit unions and state chartered saving banks have their place.
Savings Banks are a Northeast USA institution.
To keep loans and mortgages locally owned, the State should not tax the interest on the first $1,000 on Maine residents or property owners.
We heard about the lack of savings all the time. The way the dollar was going, you would have been wiser buying canned food than putting it into a savings account. That is what the hedge funds did in the futures market.report abuse
