How is it that the City of Gardiner recently ceased payments to retired employees but yet they think they can afford a skateboard park???? The retirees dedicated many years of service to the city and depended on that money to boost the retirement money they receive that will never increase no matter what the economy is doing. To add insult to injury neither the City Manager or the City Council warned the retirees these payments may be stopping. The response when asked why they weren't notified "it was on the city's web site". I agree the kids need things to do and places to go but when I grew up in Gardiner the tax payers weren't footing the bill for those things. I say if the parents truly believe a park is needed then fund it themselves privately. All these people who have relocated to Gardiner thinking they can make it like "back home" need to think about the life long residence of Gardiner and what they can afford. If a location is such a big issue the City has a lot of land on the corner of Dresden Avenue and School Street where they wanted to put a playground. Leave the playground on the common and put a skateboard park across the street. How convient would that be when a cruiser actually leaves the station?report abuse

Let them skateboard in their yard, why should every desire that comes along be expected to be funded by someone. What next, a pogo stick park?report abuse

There deffinately are way too many tightwads in this town for a skatepark to open and for ALL to enjoy it......
Most skaters in this area are praying for private funding to come forward and help out.
The Boys and Girls Club and The City of Gardiner will ruin it for all, just like the last one that was open.
Please,Please, please will someone fund this project and keep it out of the hands of the city.
Contact me and listen to my plan and together we could give the kids a great place and make money, if it is done right. I have seen it done and it CAN work!
I have had a dream fo doing this for the kids for years but, just don't have the financing to make it work.report abuse

Mr. Klondowski, you very obviously don't like young people. Referring to them as "pukes" is a very narrow minded way of thinking of our future generations. You must have forgotten that you were young once yourself, and probably not the shining example you portray in your post. These young people need a place to go, usually behave very well at the parks I've witnessed, and get along with each other better than most adults. Gardiner has a problem with skateboarders, build them a park that is located centrally, and the problem goes away. Case closed.report abuse
