Sounds like Mr. Hunter, with his blended family, etc. was living in a socialist society even though he didn't recognize it. I doubt if we could do it again.report abuse

Exactly. One of the problems with our system is that it has created a great deal of wealth for a comparative few -- that is, people who are millionaires and billionaires while many other people are living in poverty even in "good" times. Lately, the rich have been getting richer, and the poor are expanding, which is why it is said that we are losing our middle class. As everyone knows, the system of credit and financing has been getting increasingly out of hand, creating wealth for the banks and still more poverty for the general population. It's getting so bad, that so many people can no longer hang on, and that's why the banks are finally failing, which they deserve. When the general public needs credit cards just to buy gas to get to work, and financing for winter fuel, it's way out of hand. Look at the foreclosures, and the cost of food. It's out of hand. As for Iraq, we simply can't afford the $3,000,000,000 a week when our country has been going bankrupt.report abuse

It is "our free enterprise system" that got us here. With all due respect to Mr. Hunter, he displays a profound ignorance of socialism.report abuse

Our system is extremely antiquated. For example, in Sweden, anything considered vital such as oil or public transportation is nationally owned. Anything else is privately owned. A long time ago, they decided to tax the hell out of everybody, but then each and every person gets a check in the mail that covers the cost of living -- every person, from the richest to the poorest, gets the same amount so that nobody is poor, and the rich can't complain either. The result is that extremely wealthy people like we have here don't exist any more, but everyone has two homes, and everyone has a boat. So you see, there's more than one way to do things.report abuse
