Which do the people who live here want to live with more? These are the same voters who voted down gambling casinos. There's nothing to be afraid of.report abuse
Start out with an idea of democratic access and a voice for people, end up with just another soapbox for the distraught and irrelevant, a megaphone for every "concerned citizen" with a self-described cause, no matter how trivial or unrelated to the current subject. It's like the modern equivalent of mob rule.
I cannot imagine how anyone could argue that the veto process ISN'T now a financial or corporate process. it's got nothing to do with the people. Yeah, yeah, trot out the numbers, everyone signed, etc. You know, i could kick off a process to repeal the most harmless and positive of laws, and with enough funding and staff, i'd be willing to bet i could still get the required numbers. Not because it's what's best, because it's the most beneficial for the people..but because people are easily swayed by petitioners and tv.
Comments such as we see here are living proof: the people's veto may've once held a value, but it's now a contradiction within itself. it's a total misnomer, used to disguise what it really is. Much like the other favorite of its fans, "right to work".report abuse
