I once passed old Charlie in the break down lane heading to manchester from winthrop one afternoon. His secretary was taking to pick up a cruiser in Augusta that was being worked on His wife Dot told me the next day (we worked in the same room)that he wanted to see me and that I better NOT not go. She wouldnt tell me more, sure made me wonder all afternoon what he wanted from me... He told me his reason when I stopped in to see him the following day and from there we only discussed what I had in my van for a motor and upholstery and such. He was to say the least unconventional and I have to say a very nice human being he certainly had my respect I didnt do it aqain.report abuse

I came from Georgetown, Ma. originally and was a public official there for many years. I remember Charlie well growing up. He started his law enforcement career believe it or not, as a crossing guard at the Perley School on North St in Georgetown.

He saved a young child from drowing in the swamp across from the school while on duty. Later on he began his career in law enforcement as reserve policeman. I think he had retired from GE or some where like that before he started his second career. I think he also was in insurance at another point in time. He was always a great person to talk to. I lost track of him after he left Newport. I regret I never looked him up after he left Georgetown.

He was a great human being and is a loss.report abuse
