To Maidene62 -

(I'd rather see young people not do drugs, period... or smoke.)
A skate park is not a solution to a drug problem.
In my world, education and parental involvement is a better place to start.

As long as it's NOT 'my' money (taxes) that's building it, go for it. $290,000 is a LOT of money.

I'd still like to see more of a multi-use approach. How many skaters will even use this facility ? Does anyone know, 'before' they build it ?

Maybe this is just Leif Dahlin, the city's community services director ?
After all, "Dahlin should know; he's the closest thing the city has to a skate park veteran, having been involved in skate park design and construction for three decades."

I think a skate park is a very narrow use of what 'could' be a nice community attraction.
Once again, not the best City Planning in action.report abuse

To J of Augusta, I'd rather see young people using a city owned skatepark, than doing dope, hanging around street corners looking for something to do, and getting into trouble in a city that offers little in the way of amusement in the first place. I've watched my Grandchildren spend many hours at the Gage Street Park, and others around the area and can truly say that young people get along better at these skateboard places than they do anywhere else. Any money spent on this project is money well invested in our young people.report abuse

Talk about Athleticism you boarders do things today that I never even dreamed about as a kid in the 70's (I thought when I mastered a handstand that was the ultimate) Best of luck getting your park.. and please wear your safety gear..report abuse

You would THINK money like that would go toward building a MULTI-USE facility, instead of one that will benefit only a select few. What a waste.report abuse
