Dirty rotten underhanded democrats. They are so eager to power, they make me sick just listening to them!

They are the biggest bunch of empty heads I have ever known!

Hoffman should send them a lawsuit!report abuse

I wouldn't be so sure that Herb Hoffman will draw votes away from Tom Allen. Third party campaigns not only give voters greater options, but they allow voters to register dissatisfaction with party nominees, in this case two incumbent members of Congress.

The latest Rasmussen poll had Collins dropping from 52 to 49 percent, while Allen stayed at 42 percent in both polls. Where did that 3 percent go? As far as I know, Hoffman was not an option in that poll. Are those 9 percent who picked neither option actually undecided, or are they ready to vote for a third candidate?

Also, those recent polls have shown that between 24 and 34 percent of Democrats told pollsters that they would be voting for Collins. Is it because they like Collins? Or, is it that they can't bring themselves to support Allen because of his frequent funding of the Iraq War, for his refusal to consider impeachment, or for his dismissal of single-payer health care? All of these are key issues for Hoffman, are in fact what he said prompted him to run. Given another option on the ballot, I see that anti-Allen Democratic vote turning away from Collins and going to Hoffman.

Remember, in Maine, where 40 percent of voters are not enrolled in a party, two Independent governors (Jim Longley and Angus King) have been elected in the past few decades.

With the spinelessness of both Democrats and Republicans in Congress these days, and the pervasive "throw all the bums out" attitude, I think Hoffman has a real chance at winning in a 3-way contest.report abuse

jm's arguments against 3rd party candidates are great arguments against doing away with the 2 party system and moving towards a more expansive party system.report abuse

Hoffman will appeal to the Democrats, no doubt. This will yield positive results for my party.

Bob Barr on the other hand being a Libertarian appeals to some elements of both the Dems and Republicans.

I don't think he'll have much of an impact other than attacking McCain from time to time.

Barr won't confront Barack Hussein Obama because as we all know it is forbidden to question anything Obama does or says lest you be tagged as a racist.

He won't have much of an impact. On the other hand, Hoffman will - hence the Dems efforts to bury the guy.report abuse
