Mr. James,
You underestimate the diversity of the local people. Myself, and my husband are in our early 40's, and have a very wide, eclectic taste in music. We listen to alot of different music, from the Dead to Bethoven, as do the many friends we have our age.
I would have to say that if it were a rap group that came to play in town, we(along with most people) would want to be home that night as far away as we could get from that bunch of noise and the crowd that would attract.
The fact the sympony barge is not coming to town is a great disappointment to alot of folks. I hope there will be another opportunity for us to experience such a performance.report abuse

I think that if this barge came to town, (Gardiner of all places) it would draw a crowd of two! People are just not interested.
If you gave the play list to anyone around here, they wouldn't recognize anything on it.
The only reason anyone would show up is out of curiosity, not love of the music.
Now, if there was a rap star or C&W star involved, it would be standing room only.report abuse

"We pulled together to bring it here," she said. "It's not coming, but the positive thing is that we all did work together very well and understood what regional partnerships are. It's going to be the way we move things forward in the future."

So then why not use the same effort and energy to support the LOCAL performers. If you look around, there is very little in the way to support local professional musicians. It seems that if you are a local musician, you are expected to give away your services for free. Would you expect the same from any other professional. Even the amateur musicians are undersupported. Yes, times are tough, money is tight, but enough people around felt compelled to support musicians from away, why not support your own. Here's your chance to put your money where your mouth is. Or was it just the barge you were supporting?report abuse
