I don't have a problem with off-shore drilling, if it's done responsibly. However....

Those who think that we can drill our way out of our dependence on foreign oil are kidding themselves. The US only has about 3% of the world's oil reserves, yet it uses a far greater percentage of the oil produced worldwide.

The truth is really going to hurt: THE FASTER WE DRAIN OUR RESERVES, THE SOONER WE WILL BE TOTALLY DEPENDENT ON FOREIGN OIL SUPPLIES.

But, what the heck, let's just drain all of OUR oil now, and forget about tomorrow. After all, that's the American Way.report abuse

PS. The US obviously can't demand the Middle East oil-producing states export more oil unless we make a good-faith effort to do the same, a point so far lost on Maine liberals like Tom Allen. Maine is a major user of imported oil however Allen apparently opposes a single well in US territorial waters on the East or West Coast except for Alaska. The state could ask Congress for the power to over-sea drilling for oil and gas, as Virginia seems to be considering.report abuse

Senate Republicans proposed a bill that would lift offshore drilling bans by promoting deep-sea exploration, approve oil shale exploration in Western states, increase investment in plug-in electric cars and trucks, and add more staff to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for oversight of U.S. futures markets.report abuse

im betting that wood pellet planes are on the drawing board as we speak. how idiotic is it to block more drilling? what this liberal rag isnt reporting is that the democrats say no more drilling and lets move on to pie in the sky dreams. the republicans want to do more drilling now to increase supply and bring prices lower, annndd more technology and nuclear power. the democrats have been crying for years that our gasoline prices havent been as high as europe. now that were getting them, theyll start to look pretty stupid in coming weeks, and its looking like theyre changing there minds, when its looking like the vast majority of americans want to drill more...report abuse
