David:

You obviously haven't paid attention to the times that I have criticised Democrats when I thought they deserved it. No, I don't approve of using fancy accounting tricks...whether by Democrats raiding the highway fund or by Republicans (under McKernan) raiding the State Retirement Fund. It's WRONG, no matter who does it.

It was also WRONG for Obama to favor giving immunity to the Telecoms, since that MAY preclude finding out whether members of the Bush Administration broke the law (and, thus, deserve jail time). As expected, Johnny McBush approves of immunity for the Telecoms as well. They're BOTH wrong!

Unlike SOME posters, I am willing to call it like I see it all the time, and let the chips fall where they may. Rest assured, after Obama becomes President, I won't hesitate to criticize him if I think he deserves it.report abuse

jm, I note that you like to blast Republicans over gas taxes. I also note that you like to proclaim that a use tax, which the gas tax really is, goes towards upkeep of what is used.

What I don't notice is any complaint about the numerous times those elected Democratic political critters in Augusta have used accounting maneuvers to raid the highway fund. You know, where you state gas tax, which is higher than the federal gas tax, ends up.

I'm pretty sure that when you rail about one party doing something, but neglect to even pay lip service to what another party is doing, it means your partisanship is showing.

Kinda like Obama voting to give the telco's immunity for helping Bush spy on Americans. How do you feel about that?report abuse

Peter:

The last time I looked, gasoline taxes were "dedicated" to a fund specifically used for road and bridge construction/repair. If you go for McBush's pandering suggestion of a "gas-tax holiday," you're CUTTING funds that are necessary (unless you're willing to accept MORE potholes and failing bridges as a matter of coarse). Ask folks in Minnesota who used that failed bridge if cutting THEIR gas taxes is a priority!report abuse

jm, I agree with you n ethanol, but have to raise the BS flag on you for using that tired old "how do we pay for tax cuts" line. We pay for tax increases we don't pay for decreases.report abuse
