You're supposed to change the oil?
Oh, oh........report abuse
1. I owned a bunch old VW's, with high mileage. One thing I learned, REGARDLESS of synthetic/regular motor oil, I always used an oil additive. The prices ranged from 89 cents to $30.00, and in a high mileage car, it was a piece of mind issue that kept my car running quiet, with a cool engine.
2. The longest running debate: When to check your dipstick...when the engine is hot or cold. I was always taught, and it made sense that it is better when it is COLD. There are some gearheads, wrench monkey's and grease gunners out there who check it when it is hot. But think about it...the oil when hot, is going to be in your engine and rather thin, thus it's reading on the dipstick won't be right.
3. Changing your own oil vs. going to your dealer or Jiffy Lube: Most people like to change their own oil, and know how to grease the axles etc. However, most people don't have the equipment (nor the guts to crawl under their car to grease their car, only to have Dad's Oldsmobile on your chest), so they go to Jiffy Lube and pay a fortune for all the work, and to the dealer. Bottom line: That if everything is greased properly...your engine works better (Duh..), and you won't burn oil.
Yeah, old cars could use 3K oil changes. New ones, well let the car tell you when it's time. It might save you in the long run. But if your car starts belching smoke, I don't know ya!report abuse
Just a joke, but it ranks up there with a guy with a well coffee stained cup, saying that "it improves the taste.."report abuse
