The Western Avenue I drive on is full of huge trucks and adult toys playing macho and making noise. The KJ one day promotes conservation, and the next motorized recreation. When the paper gets serious enough to stop promoting gas consumption as play maybe the public will take the issue seriously also. And seriously we all know the music man led the parade against trouble in iraq cause he really truly believed in his faulty intelligence. But some really evil leader might have lead people in for the 115 billion barrels of high quality crude sitting right near the surface. If the war had been about oil some might wonder why it isn't on it's way here right now, but of course the war wasn't about oil so we don't have to ask that.report abuse

Some of you folks don't get it.

Oil currently costs about $40 a barrel to extract. But it costs how much at market today?

Oh, and DaveD... your 85% hasn't been extracted is plain nonsense. Further, nearly all of the oil drilled in Alaska is immediately exported to the Far East. That oil rarely makes it down here to the lower 48. And nuke plants will do nothing to provide us gasoline that is not overpriced.report abuse

It has nothing to do with hugging trees or loving trout - extracting oil from the ground is a hugely expensive process - and...whose backyard should we start drilling in????report abuse

When will you people wake up to the fact that we must drill for oil in the US. 85% of our oil has never been accessed.

Build a nuclear power plant here in Maine, build hydro damns, build wind farms (except in Cape Elizabeth) and coal fired generators (Germany has great success with coal)....

If you want to keep hugging the trees and protecting the trout then... deal with the $4 / gallon fuel prices - $7 / gallon by the end of summer I will assure you.report abuse
