The Town can spend all this money on new upgraded facilities but can not afford to mow the grass? Come on..... This should be a huge wake up call to everyone and the Town should be forced to combine the Police and Ambulance into the newly purchased Health Center. There is an excess of space there for both depts and renovating two seperate facilites is BS in Kevin Cooksons termninology.
By the way, where is the money coming from to mow the grass at the new facility?report abuse

I used to work for a principal who cut our school's grass. When asked why he would "jump on his John Deere," he would respond, "That's why I get paid the big bucks." I think it was because the teens and we teachers drove him nuts:)

Too many parents are sue-happy. These days it doesn't "pay" to have a student mow any grass, but the school administration could work it out so it became a duty of a faculty member. I'd much rather cut grass than have a homeroom class each morning. I'm sure something could be arranged with a teacher or staff member.report abuse

Well it doesn't help that the Winthrop Recreation Committee doesn't solicit for funds.. or have fund raisers. There is no reason why we can't pay some of the older students to cut grass at a very reasonable price and/or have them offset some cost by cutting private business and have them supplement fuel costs. Once again, lack of creativity.report abuse

A power struggle, Wow, what a battle to pick.

Lets see, the School get Milllions to spend and they can't pony up some funds to cut the grass.

The Town Manager just made some cuts to grounds crews to the tune of a few thousand bucks, this has got to be some kind of sick joke to make people angry over the grass and they would have a right to be mad if the town can't provide basic services with the tax money the get. Small Town politics at its best.report abuse
