Hermann:

Somehow I'm not surprised that the KJ ignored another serious reason to delay the bridge project: DOT is trying to encourage as many drivers as possible to use the Maine Turnpike, rather than Rt. 201, to replace 295 this summer.

From the northern end of the 295 closure in Gardiner, the access route to the Turnpike is (surprise) Route 197...over the bridge that the turnpike was planning to close. What a fiasco that would have been! It's the old Maine joke: "You can't get there from here."report abuse

Safety of all Maine bridges is at question Hermann Munster.

That is something all citizens who use our bridges need to be concerned with.report abuse

If that bridge needs immediate repair, why are they using it for heavy loads? That makes absolutely no sense. Seems risky given their previous comments about the safety of that bridge.report abuse
