Well, sometimes you get what you pay for, and if you think you're getting ripped off, then you can go somewhere else. You have options, and you can always bargain with a local person a lot more easily that with a national corporation.

That's too bad about your neighbor. It is hard to keep up with those tomatoes come August! Too bad they aren't more friendly.report abuse

dj...i'm sure if you KNOW the farmer..he's going to be good to you.....but the average joe gets taken to the cleaners no matter what ..
that was my point
it happens at the auto repair shop just as well as at the local farm stand...
cukes and tomatoes is all i need
i have a neighbor that plants a real nice gardern each year....and i see the stuff rotting at the vine...sad cause many times i drive by and say man them tomatoes would make a great salad..
he does a great job of planting ...but leaves way too much to rot...and you know how it is up here with neighbors....MIND YOUR own BUSINESS..
( i know hes a beer drinker ... at times i want to pick some and leave him a six pack...lol )
very unfriendly imoreport abuse

Prices will be cheaper than you think, but you'll want to do research and call around. However, you do have to consider that you get a CSA package every week all summer (depending on what you sign up for) and it won't contain tomatoes until they are in season. But you're getting lots of other delicious veggies (and maybe even berries) until they are.

I have my own garden too, but I know lots of nice farmers, and if you don't have time or land to garden, CSA is a great choice.report abuse
