In my case a double wammy...no reduction in the t-pike tolls Gardiner to Augusta or Portland to Kittery and living in Richmond I will have to cope with the snail's pace traffic that south bound 201 will bear.

A recent accident on I-295 at Augusta is just a taste of what we can expect on southbound 201...just multiply it by four.

Two and a half hours to go less than three miles as two highway lanes funnel down into a single lane off ramp into existing traffic. Have you ever noticed that vehicles with Mass plates will drive right up to the blockade before they think about merging to the right???

Traffic on summer Sundays will back up into the exit toll of ME TPike onto I-295. What do you bet that on may occassions the Transpass lane will be closed due to repairs.report abuse

Let me repeat this for the sake of spreading the real truth about the upcoming debacle. I commute from Gardiner to Freeport. The turpike makes ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE in my commuting habits. It would be INSANE, given the price of gas and the number of miles out of the way for me to use the turpike as an alternate route. Dangling a 'free' toll box at me is beyond useless. The Kennebec Commuter probably drives a really small car a really short distance to only spend $26 and change per week. So, writing this column is a waste of space!report abuse
