Slate's is our favorite restaurant anywhere. We lived in Augusta many years ago and ate there once a week. We live in Southern Maine now, but a couple of times a year, we make a date with friends to meet and eat there. The 90 minute drive is well worth it. We can't wait for them to re-open.

I appreciate the updates on their progress. Thanks for the coverage. Like all special-interest stories, those that are interested read it, those that aren't, don't. I don't read the sports page, but I also don't question why you have one.report abuse

Twilight of Winthrop thank you for saying what I have always felt about Slate's wait staff. I always felt they were haughty and ocassionally trash mouthed and as for the fare itself...I just don't know what all rage is about.

There are numerous places with a better, more tasty brunch offering and more more important still...a better cup of coffee. How can you have a serious Sunday brunch offering and offer such crappy java!

I remember the dirty looks I got one time when I carried in a cup of Dunkin' Donuts finest. I actually enjoyed the "rolling of the eyes" we got that day.

What a bunch of hoey!report abuse

OK, I made my point. I too enjoy the cuisine, but just felt that Mayor Tony and others carried this all to an extreme. Who cares if the Mayor of Hallowell cannot wait for his heart stoppers eggs when the place reopens. Sorry if I was offensive to the folk of Hallowell. Regards and bon appetite to all.report abuse
