I am fond of the little schools; the 'best' in the state perhaps in most ways. Nonetheless, I must come down on the side of reasonableness/trust/common sense and the significant efforsts of the RSU planning group and in this article the reasoning of Cookson and Mitchell with a little Dyer thrown in, eh? Great article. Readers know exactly where they stand/or do not stand, chuckle...re the alternative and the proposed RSU. Don Beattie in Winthrop, MEreport abuse

As I said in my article in the Community Advertiser, August 30, 2008, titled: School Consolidation, IS IT TIME TO SAY "TIME OUT!!!"?, these proposed school consolidation efforts are straining every one to the maximum. It is TRULY time to say "Time Out". The bill that was passed (LD 2323) became effective July 18th and you cannot have a referendum in November? Come on, where is the Governor and the Legislature on correcting this? The August 25th deadline for being able to have a referendum is absurd considering the extreme conditions imposed by the legislation. Why is the State of Maine making everything so difficult for this large task? Is it that the State of Maine really does not care? It is ironic that the State of Maine is taking this dictatorial position. We need to stand up together and fix the problem. Governor you and the Legislature need to be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem.report abuse
