"Although it will be named for him -- the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing -- it was inspired by his mother"...
Personally, I'd find him MUCH MUCH MUCH more "McDreamy" if he had his mother's name on the building. I can't imagine naming something after myself. However, THANK YOU for donating to the state. I have many family and friends living in the beautiful state of Maine and I appreciate your contribution. If every person who had the means had the DESIRE to donate, there would be little need for all these taxes....report abuse

Great guy! Thank you Patrick for providing something so many will benefit from. You described it exactly by stating it can be "overwhelming" to everyone effected.
There is tons of information available (beware ~ not all is right) but the problem has been it's not in one place. The time savings and benefits this will bring to patients and family is priceless.
I've lost my mother and 36 yr. old brother to cancer and was desperate for information. Now my other brother is fighting it to survive.
Survive emotionally, physically and financially. And when patients don't survive, the family still has the struggles after.
This is awesome for the area and very much needed. Thanks again Patrick and keep dreaming of "vacationland" while we dream of you.report abuse

What a wonderful facility for the people of Maine , especially the families afflicted with this dreadful disease. This man's kindness, may just make the heartache and stress a bit easier, for those who need it.Anything that brings some relief is a blessing.Cancer is such a hard thing to deal with, both for the victim, and his loved ones as well..We never know who among us, may be the first to use it, although I pray none of us do.People are often far from home, and their being with a loved one, means so much to him. God bless such a generous giver..report abuse

God Bless you and your family in this important undertaking! My mother died of cancer in 1980 and by the time they even knew what it was, it was too late. I do not recall ever having anything like this, even though I was 15 at the time, it would have been nice for us to have such a place! My mother spent 2 months in Augusta General before she died and there really wasn't much they could do but just guess. Thank you Patrick Dempsey, from a fellow Mainiac! I no longer live in the state but keep in touch with those close to me that still reside in the state.report abuse
