The money for the $95 million in overspending has to come from somewhere...there's no way this Legislature is going to make those kinds of cuts, and the reduction in Medicaid funding is going to have to be made up...because there aren't enough elderly and mentally challenged benefits to cut to cover that.....anyone want to bet this piece is just one of many coming down to pike to soften us up for the sales tax increase coming from this legislative session (the one Beth Edmonds has already hinted at)?

What a crock this is....we're better in the ratings if you present it as tax burden per capita...rather than tax burden vs. income.....why not present it as tax burden per tree? Maine would look MUCH better then.

Figures lie and liars figure.....this article is proof of that.report abuse

Austin, Allen and the rest of the state bureaucrats are desperate. They don't want to cut anything from the state budget to pay for the huge deficit that is mounting. The fact that this is the attitude coming from Augusta is absolutely what you would expect.....what about the poor taxpayer who is facing an imminent recession/depression. The desperate Maine taxpayers may lose their jobs and have trouble supporting their families but they'll still have to pay taxes to support Michael Allen's state salary and healthcare and Austin's salary paid for by everyone's local taxes. Have these people no shame....they'd do anything to try and justify spending more taxpayer money. Like it really even matters if Maine is number three tax burden or number 5....Maine is way above the national average and is one of the poorest most aging states in the U.S. and that's a fact Austin ! And the economists at Census are way more qualified at spotting errors in the data than Austin who is a lobbyist (not an economist)!report abuse
