Good idea about the community college. They work great in California. Affordable. Adults use them. Kids can use them to get experience and springboard into better universities. Education is the key to so much. Indespensible for breaking the poverty cycle.

Western Avenue is getting so I'll always avoid it. Too much traffic and annoying chain businesses. The Augusta Crossing wart isn't the way to go. We're getting way too many bad chain stores. Working customer service at any of those places is no career future for our kids.report abuse

I remember downtown Augusta when it did have very nice stores and restaurants. What it has never had, and will not rebound without, is adequate free parking and public restrooms. Say what you want about the big box stores, they all have that.report abuse

One other thought i have stated the same for Skowhegans downtown, but all them emty units in Augusta could be used as class rooms. The place could be turned into a Jr. collage or comunity what ever you want to call it.The thing is you could get alot of help from the Feds. Here in Florida its interesting how many young and older folk take classes and work towards a degree. Many take just 1 class or 2 or what ever they have time for and can handle. Some take many years before they earn thier degree ,but if the small collage were not here they would not bother.A good way to better the city and provide more for the people.report abuse
