I think GoMaine gets a bum rap sometimes. I mean, it's a carpool matching program with some vanpools but mostly it's a carpool program. That means you can only find a ride if other people have put their name in and are going your way. And since, up until recently, most of us have not put our info in the system, we're not showing up. It's not the program's fault. It's that people aren't using it yet.
I bet with gas prices up and press like this, that database will jump considerably and maybe people will find more carpool matches than before. It's worked for me. Personally i'm psyched that the state sponsors something as progressive as this program, especially in a rural state like Maine. It's stuff like this that makes me glad to live here.report abuse

Unless things have chaged dramatically in the last 9 months, GoMaine is a waste of time for those of us who have to commute south. GoMaine works very well if you live in Portland and commute north but those of us living in the Augusta area and travelling south are out of luck. I tried every week for the 18 months that I was working in Portland and never had any results.

Maine has to wake up and realize that even with the Downeaster, GoMaine, and the few cities that have bus transportation, public transportation in Maine is an oxymoron. There are no trains, buses (other than Greyhound and Trailways, that run regular schedules (other than local) anywhere in Maine in what could be called public, commuter transportation.report abuse

ridiculous,
we spend 10 billion a month in the wars that our fine leaders have deemed necessary. and yet, our economy is crashing, people are suffering, less jobs, less gas, less money. where does it end?
Brilliant, friggin brilliant.report abuse
