For those at the end of the baby boom generation, it will be total devastation. For women that are just finishing up raising children, many of which did it alone, it will be a race to save, even a little, for retirement. Many single parents can not save and did not acquire property to liquidate until late in life. They are going to be paying mortgages until well past 70 years old. Social Security Income/Disability is being raped by the generation that would be in place to pay into it and companies that are currently being invested in through 401K plans are failing. I disagree that the baby boomers are the all about "me" generation. Rather, the current generation is that. If we are guilty of one thing, it is the molly coddling, feel good and do everything for everybody sentiments we have passed on to our children and grandchildren. We have raised a generation of narcissistic personalities that will no doubt vote in euthanasia in order to avoid having to pay for our care. They'll have to in order to survive. I am afraid of what is to become of us. We came from ancestors that had strong work ethics, backbone, loved God, Country and Family and were not afraid to stand up and fight the good fight in any situation. They instilled that in us and we have not passed that on. Perhaps it is our own fault for not having the foresight to see that self-concern is the detriment to the whole of society. Perhaps we did not see that taking care of everyone starts with self-reliance and responsibility. Maybe if we taught that prosperity, in any measure, is earned and not an entitlement gleaned from government programs, we would be in a different place now. In the mean time, I will continue to work my two jobs while my 20 year old neighbors down the street keep me up all night drinking away the social security disability check.report abuse
