Orientation days, then swearing-in
Freshmen legislators-elect are at the Statehouse today for more training sessions on how to be lawmakers.
The agenda includes a seminar to help them communicate with constituents and the public, and some advice on filing bills.
On Tuesday, the freshman class will be joined by incumbents for a mandatory ethics seminar and some information on the state's right to know law. The big excitement on Tuesday will come in the afternoon, when Democrats will meet to choose their nominee for attorney general.
Then on Wednesday, Gov. John Baldacci will swear-in all the members, and they'll choose a House Speaker and Senate President, along with a new attorney general.
The week wraps-up on Thursday at St. Paul's Center, where the Maine Development Foundation is scheduled to lead a policy forum on energy issues.
Barring the need for a special session, legislators will then be off until January, when they will reconvene to begin hard work on the budget and a host of other issues.
