Fundraisers target lobbyists
Just before they get sworn-in for the new legislative session, legislators are throwing fundraisers to try to get a little more money from lobbyists before next week's deadline.
By state law, legislators are not allowed to pad their war chests with contributions from lobbyists once the legislative session begins. They'll be sworn-in at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Lobbyists will be busy Monday morning at The Senator, as they go back and forth from the House Democratic breakfast to the House Republican breakfast.
Just to get through the door, lobbyists will have to pony up at least $250. Of course, if they want to give more, it is welcome. If you want to be considered a "leader" at the Democratic shindig, you have to give $2,500.
On Tuesday, Senate Republicans will be at the Augusta Country Club in Manchester, where it costs only $100 to get through the door. Senate Democrats already held their party, where it cost $100 for an individual to attend the "fall fundraiser."
