Election upsets
For those who've been watching this stuff for months, the top-of-the ticket outcomes last night weren't any real surprise, at least not in Maine.
But I was shocked by some of the other results:
•Democrat Anna Blodgett beats Republican Julie O'Brien in one of two Augusta House races. A local politics-watcher called this one months ago, but I didn't believe him. Our results show Blodgett with 2,299 votes to 1,962 for O'Brien.
•In two (and possibly more) House races, Democrats knocked off Republican incumbents. Rep. Bonnie Gould, R-South Berwick, a solid legislator, was defeated by Democrat Mark Eves, according to results collected by the Bangor Daily News.
•And in House District 105, Rep. Mike Vaughan, R-Durham, who served six years in the House, lost to Democrat David Van Wie of New Gloucester by 88 votes.
•Did you check out the drinking water bond results? They're pretty close. With 79 percent of precincts reporting, it's 50.89 percent yes, and 49.11 percent no.
Any other surprises?
