Ron Paul takeover doesn’t materialize
Coming into the Republican State Convention, party leaders and other longtime party activists expressed concern that Ron Paul supporters would somehow take over the convention.
And while they did make their presence known, the Ron Paul fans didn’t disrupt the party business or dominate the convention.
When all was said and done, they got one delegate to the national convention. Patrick Eisenhart of Augusta is one of 21 Republicans from Maine who will go to the convention in early September.
Toward the end of Sen. Olympia Snowe’s speech on Saturday, more than a dozen Ron Paul supporters quietly circulated in the back of the room holding signs. At the lunch break, they asked to have a video of Paul played over the large TV screens, and walked to the front of the room for a mini-rally.
While walking back down the center aisle to leave, a female McCain supporter and a male Paul supporter got into a brief shouting match. I was too far away to hear much, but the McCain woman seemed to be saying she wanted the party to unify behind the presumptive nominee.
When it came to the platform, there were 21 possible amendments, many put forward by Paul supporters. Most of them failed.
What could have been a long platform fight was tamped down when convention chairwoman Ann Robinson limited debate to one person on each side, and gave them only one minute to speak.
Later, when that still took too long, the majority voted to forgo any debate and just vote on the amendments.
Among them was a proposal to adopt gold and silver as legal tender, abolish the IRS, conduct an audit of the gold at Fort Knox and repeal all federal firearm laws.
That one was soundly defeated.
And while fears of a Ron Paul takeover proved unfounded, the party did see a spike in attendance this year from people like Joseph Tilly of Albion. A Republican for only four months, Tilly said this is his first convention.
He’s not sure he’ll come back. He said he felt the convention was biased toward McCain and that it was disrespectful when organizers turned off the microphone while 1st Congressional District candidate Dean Scontras was speaking on Friday.
When asked if he will be active in the party in the future, he replied: “It depends on who the next candidate is.”

I am glad everyone behaved. Please read the above article and then decide if the presumptive winner should prevail.

I am a 30-year Republican. I continue watching the National GOP commit political suicide this year. Every state primary/caucus the Democrat’s has 3-4 times the Republican turnout. Yet the GOP is hammering down new politically involved Republicans like our family.
The GOP wants bodies but no conversation, fresh blood and real conservatives. Did McCain win Maine in the primary, NO, so why the brow beating for McCain. The National GOP is only interested in promoting their poster boy over any logical, discussion. The National GOP is disseminating fear to the Republican base of loosing the November election to the Democrat’s if any dissent or discussion of candidates other then McCain poster boy brought up.
Well National GOP I have a NEWS FLASH for you. Your disenfranchising millions of conservative Republican voters in 2008 guarantee a thrashing by the Democrat’s. Our family is not voting for McCain. 7 lost Republican votes this year can be expected from your family.

There's no difference between McCain and Clinton who are both puppets of the gobal international companies. Except for his stand on the Iraq war, Obama is not much different with big government and big spending as the middle class gets killed by more taxes and the upperclass elite pocket a larger percentage of the land and wealth. The Bush-Clinton two party monarchy will continue in Jan. with the election of Hillary and we will all suffer for eight more years.
The republican party needs to return to their libertarian, small federal government, sound fiscal policies, and less taxes on the middle and lower classes ways of the past. Shame on the neoconmen that have hijacked the party of Reagan.

Come January 20th, when Hillary is sworn in, they will realize the mistake they made trying to force this liberal McCain down the peoples throats! They will realize that not only could Dr. Paul have beat Hillary, but for once we could have had a President that actually fought for conservative ideas and won many people to the Republican party! Now, because of these people and the bad taste Bush has left, the Democrats will be the party in power for decades, IF we last that long!

I am from the state of Michigan and disturbed by what I am reading, it is as if the state establishment is proud of what they did, voting down language that makes the constitution the supreme law and returning to a gold standard ect. All issues raised were constitutional ones, what are these people thinking about?
I am disturbed, but encouraged, for as the establshment begins to age and die off, the new generation shall rise and take over. I am hopefull the next time around the voting will shift...tward liberty

It's not that this was different than most conventions. This reporter just did a more objective job of reporting. Ron Paul people usually behave and follow the rules until McCain supporters try to shout them down or exclude them. In Nevada, the Ron Paul people were accused of causing a ruckus when it was the McCain people who acted like children and walked out when they couldn't get what they wanted following the rules.
McCain is not going to win. Obama is going to be our next President unless the MSM special interest groups can create an issue about someone he had sex with when he was 21. Hopefully, after he gets elected, he will evaluate the situation and realize that there just in not any money available for Hillary care, tax rebates, to subsidize medical care for 20 million illegals, to give to the Israelis or Saudis, or to fight the war.

It sounds to me like the Maine GOP leadership used their dictatorial powers to smother the debate of party principles and went straight to ushering in the PRE-NOMINEE John McCain. The Revolution learns more and more of the tactics of GOP from these phony conventions. We are winning the hearts and minds of America. We will NOT be silenced or stifled. We will challenge tyranny at every level of government until we get our freedom BACK.

Another sad day for the republic and constitution. We must fight on for our freedoms no matter what. In 4 years we can only hope that someone like Ron Paul will be running again.

"Among them was a proposal to adopt gold and silver as legal tender, abolish the IRS, conduct an audit of the gold at Fort Knox and repeal all federal firearm laws."
Was all of that supposed to be one amendment? Jeez. No wonder it was defeated. They should have stuck with a favorite. I'd like to know how much gold we have in Fort Knox, wouldn't you? I mean, well, even if *I* don't know, I'd like for *someone* to know....

It is time for the two major parties to be dissolved. They no longer represent the good of the people, the Constitution, or our republic. They do not recognize that the Constitution is the law of the land, nor do the elected officals in thier parties honor thier oath to uphold it. It has become no more then two competing circus side shows. Neither is interested in supporting who best represents our people, our values, our morales and honors the oath of office. They put forth thier best idiot who has thier own agenda and the biggest special interest backing. Trojans that infest the foundation this country was built upon and usurp the constitution. Thier followers blind allegiance to thier party helps make them a parasite that feeds off the blood of the people so they may gain the power to rule. They are fascist wrapped in a flag, and treasonist to this country and the Constitution!

no matter what failures we will fight on no matter what. As long a common sense exists, people at some point are going to come around to it so no probs. RP's people are going to be around for quite some time, and the gop is going to keep losing unless it figures out how to get back to the traditional conservatism Paul supports.

I propose that the lower 47 states, alaska and hawaii secede from the union and form a new republic with Ron Paul as our president, then declare war on maine. Since we are a big country full of idiots this kind of thing might fly here...

I'm a Maine resident who has attended most state Republican conventions since 1992. Why do we fall for the same tricks over and over? In the name of "party unity" the sheeple are being led over a cliff by powerful influences at the top and behind the scenes of the hierarchy of both parties. Party unity has long been used as a club to keep the grassroots in line. Heaven forbid We The People should actually have a say anymore. But more and more of us are beginning to see through this charade and are joining forces with the Ron Paul Revolution. Let's put all we can into this effort while we still have the freedom to do so.

Okay, let's review. Every four years, for decades, Amerikans across this land shuffle through the routine of "selecting" a nominee for the presidential election. Every four years, we're worse off than before. How many MORE decades will it take before the rest of you realize this process is NOT going to bring about real change?

Of course we all have to unify when it's the GOP establishment candidate. Otherwise, we might actually have a real race. And then they wonder why we are disillusioned with the Repbublicrats. We're here to stay, and we won't back down. Go Ron!

It seems the GOP brought in some heavy hitters to quell the "peasant uprising". Congratulations! I guess you learned from the Nevada convention.
What this really shows, however, is that the Ron Paul revolution is powerful enough to enough to warrant such a response, despite allegations otherwise.
The game has just begun, and something tells me the more times the GOP behaves in a shady manner to stifle dissent in the name of "party unity" the bigger the growing army of Ron Paul revolutionaries will be.
Great reporting with the innuendo that "they are not true republicans" towards the end. *clap*

Here is an excerpt from the 1952 Republican Party Platform, it certainly sounds much more like Ron Paul than John McCain and the rest of the GOP parasites that have taken over the Party.
“We maintain that man was not born to be ruled, but that he consented to be governed; and that the reasons that moved him thereto are few and simple. He has voluntarily submitted to government because, only by the establishment of just laws, and the power to enforce those laws, can an orderly life be maintained, full and equal opportunity for all be established, and the blessings of liberty be perpetuated.
We hold that government, and those entrusted with government, should set a high example of honesty, of justice, and unselfish devotion to the public good; that they should labor to maintain tranquility at home and peace and friendship with all the nations of the earth."

Dr. Paul is the only candidate that even brings up the issue of our failing monetary system.
Consider this: a person making $32,000 per year today has the equivalent purchasing power of $5,907.40 1970 dollars. So, the same person making $15.38 per hour today is equal to making $2.84 per hour in real purchasing power in 1970 dollars. It is not the price of goods and services that have risen so much, but the purchasing power of our dollar that has been so drastically reduced. Our standard of living has been effectively reduced through fiat money inflation.
Is there any wonder that poverty is becoming rampant? The government has no other choice but enforce minimum wages in order to keep the working poor at some level of subsistence. At the current $5.85 per hour a person has the same 1970 purchasing power of $1.08 per hour, at 40 hours per week that person is effectively making $43.20 per week to make ends meet.
What are we waiting on, to become serfs of the State?
Dr. Paul is the only candidate that has addressed these issues and the problem is that the situation will only get worse as our money continues to be intentionally debased through the FED's Monetary Policies.
By 2012 we will all wish that Ron Paul had been elected in 2008 instead of either McCain, Clinton or Obama.

Although I hate reading about such events, I am so inspired to see people commenting in angst about the way things are. It feels good to know that people can see through the machine. I'm young, and I fear I won't be able to carry the obligations forced on to my generation. All I want is my chance at prosperity to be protected.
To see so many people around me trumpeting the empty rhetoric of the puppets that are cast in the spotlight 24/7 by the corrupt media breaks my heart. So many of them are vapid and have no reason why they support the media-anointed candidates.
The story isn't yet written. I hope that I'll be able to look back at these important days and remember that people woke up to this beaming opportunity to vote for someone that isn't allied with an elite aristocracy...someone whose heart isn't tangled up in special interests. We have someone running for the presidency that not only knows what he's talking about, but he CARES about what he's talking about!! And he actually understands the role of the presidency, and he understands the bedrock principles of America that are in place to protect its citizens. He understands history!!
Standing among the remaining four, it cannot be any more obvious that Ron Paul is our only hope.

Beyond just the lack of common respect that Paul and the supporters of his campaign representing the ideals of Individual Liberty and Responsibility at the Convention Saturday, I was equally as baffled by the Platform fight.
One proposed Amendment in particular (Amendment proposal 1F) basically stated that the Maine GOP believes The "U.S. Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Land" and listed several supporting points (most of which are points actually found IN the Constitution). In spite of the fact that just about all government officials from local board of appeals to President of these United States attest to this point with their Oath of Office, this Amendment was shot down in bright FLAMES and much enjoyment by the Republicans in attendance desperately trying to convince themselves that John McCain is a fiscal and social conservative worthy of their party unity.
Now, I'm used to a Republican Party that gives flowery patriotic sounding lip service to the idea and swears to support and defend all of the ideas expressed by the Constitution during the campaigns and then completely ignores those principles when it comes time to come up with Legislation...I'm not so sure that I can stomach a Republican Party that has such an open and outright flagrant disdain for the principles in our Constitution as to keep it out of the Party's Platform. There's room enough in the platform to make the claim that gays shouldn't have the right of marriage. I mean, we are talking about the same Constitution that my honourable brothers and sisters in uniform (whom these flag wrapped Republicans claim to so honour and cherish) have sworn our lives to "support and defend from all enemies foreign and domestic."
As far as I'm concerned in openly rejecting our Nation's Constitution, the Maine GOP has now lost whatever claim that they once may have had to consider themselves the party of patriotism.

Just thought I'd check in as another Ron Paul supporter. The GOP needs to be aware of our numbers. When the Republican Party loses the Whitehouse, who do you think they will blame? They certainly won't consider the fact that McCain is more of Bush, who has been awarded the WORST approval rating.

We Texans DO NOT WANT THE Trans Texas Corridor. You can take your NAU and SPP deals and shove it up your rear end or better yet up CFR David Rockefeller and Nathan Rothschild's rear end. As his Father and Grandfather, President Bush is a TRAITOR and in violation
of the Logan Act. We Texans want nothing to do with any of Bush's hidden agenda and secret societies. We will fight your NWO efforts because you bring chains to our FREEDOM.
McCain, Obama the Muzzie, Hillery and Bill are all members of the CFR. They are all Traitors to the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.
None of the people mentioned above would make a hair on Ron Paul's ass. That is as obvious as your hand in front of your face. Please get your head our of your ass, the time for Revolution has come. The MSM are NWO owned and are Lying Traitors on the highest scale. The www is the New World News Media and WE AMERICAN PATRIOTS and RON PAUL are not going away. See what the Government fails to understand is it doesn't matter who wins the Presidency anymore. Ron Paul is the True Leader of what WE THE PEOPLE want. We want a leader who is not a liar and member of the Bilderburgish Secret Societies seeking World Domination through World Globalization. Simply put it's Ron Paul and We the People vs. a Government who is corrupt and has to be torn down and replaced. The Revolution has begun. Either you are with us or against us. Get off your ass and make a decision. I have.

"John McCain for more of the same," should be the campaign slogan for the GOP this year. I am one loyal Republican who prays that McCain will LOSE in November. Otherwise our party will NEVER recover.
The Maine GOP convention was orchestrated by "telephone booth Republicans", party members who would rather end up holding their convention in a telephone boot rather than relinquish their death grip on the GOP.

It is amazing how evil must show it's hand. As it's end draws near, it becomes far more naked in appearance, so desparate for power that it becomes unable to cloak itself - to use a Star Trek analogy, it's like a "Klingon vessel" whose 'cloaking device' fails very late in a sure-to-fail attack.
The GOP has been all but destroyed by GWB and his corrupt pols. We evangelicals who have foolishly carried water for him, who have actually denied Christian character & virtue in a vain attempt to defend the indefensible, are now facing a 99 % chance of Hillary / Obabma becoming President. Forget McCain. He's a 0 % chance of winning. I'm a GOP delegate from E. Texas, and we just had a meeting where a shill for him tried to rev up our footsoldiers - to no avail. Here's the fact: if you can't even enthuse your home fans of the prospect of your team winning, how likely are you to win over the citizenry loyal to your opponenents ?
NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Ron Paul was the only man of character running - the the establishment so skewed him, denied him air time to explain his positions, that they proved their loyalty is to holding power, above all.
Now, in service of their partisan idolatry, they're going to give it over to the Democrats.
How can you unify a party around lies - you can't !
God save this Republic - & save us from our homegrown idolatries.

By voting down certain issues in their meeting designed to show continued or restored loyalty to the Constitution by the Maine G0OP, the Maine GOP have said:
1. They no longer hold any loyalty to said Constitution
2. They have not held any loyalty to said Constitution for a very long time (probably decades if not centuries)
3. Roberts Rules of Order and Cronyism will be used at all times against all efforts of the people of Maine to restore such loyalty
4. The State of Maine (and all states behaving similarly) has ceded all its power to the Federal Government for any control or say in its affairs.
We do not know what we have lost, and because of that we cannot hope to ever regain it- Mark Watson
