Ron Paul supporter sends out anti-McCain letter

Ron Paul supporter Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt of Dresden recently sent out a letter criticizing Sen. John McCain and urging Maine Republicans not to support his bid for the presidency.

Iserbyt, a delegate to the state convention that starts Friday, said she wants to stop what she sees as a Republican shift to the left. In the letter, she describes McCain as a “maniacal neoconservative war monger.”

She was less pointed in an interview.

“I don’t understand the good Republicans who don’t seem to understand you don’t just go along with a candidate because he’s selected by the people running the world,” she said in a phone interview.

Iserbyt, a former official in the Reagan administration’s Department of Education, said the letter has the support of others, but she volunteered to put her name on it because she can handle criticism.

“There are many people in Maine who feel John McCain doesn’t represent what we believe in,” she said.

In particular, she mentioned McCain’s stand on the war in Iraq and his comment that the U.S. might need to have a presence there for up to 100 years.

She said she’s worried Ron Paul supporters will be marginalized at the convention.

“We are a threat to the agenda supported by both parties,” she said. “We have a one party system now.”

Good for Ms Iserbyt! I'm a registered Republican from Pennsylvania, and decided, as 128,000 of us did here, that we do not need a war-hungry McCain and his "On to Iran" buddy, Lieberman, in the White House. Even McCain admits he knows little about economics (although he has eight homes). Its past time for the Republicans to take their Party back from the neocons.

Don't goose-step in line and vote for your party loyalty for McCain, Mr. I'm a Liberal Republican himself. This is the same guy who was considering running with John Kerry for crying out loud.
Republican? Not in my book.
If you think he already has the nomination, what's the problem with sending him a message that you want him to uphold conservative values?

Vote for Ron Paul.

We've got Democrats acting like Socialists and Republicans acting like Democrats. Ron Paul is the only one that is making any sense!

Thanks for your boldness in making such a truthful statement. In Washington State we are slowly but successfully taking back the GOP as Ron Paul Republicans. I wish you the best as you take on your fight in Maine.

We love you Ms Iserbyt for standing up for truth justice and the American Way not the John McCain way who sells out to Soros, Hernandez, Lieberman and all that other NAU garbage!

Down with McCain.

it's the actions of those like Ms Iserbyt and the comments I see above that put some reality into the Pauls campaign slogan (Hope for America) Keep up the good work people and we may actually be able to put our party (and our country) right again...

The truth only hurts the untruthful! It is up to each of us to decide what we believe - based on factual research, and I think Ms. Iserbyt has done her research well.

I am from Maine and received the letter. It was right on, well written and completely truthful. Kudos for having the nerve to send it. I am confident that there are great things ahead for Dr. Paul. His numbers are swelling and more people are becoming aware of the fact that he is steadfast, honest and understands economics. He is also the one who can make the USA a peaceful and respected nation once again. Go Ron Paul!

I would like to add a quote from a recent book called "A Time for Civility" by Os Guinness to my previous post, and think it is right on target. It goes as follows:
"Against all such characteristically American kinds of drift and complacency, it must be said firmly: The facts are on the table, the stakes are high, and the moment of opportunity is closing. Unless the present generation restores civility in public life, the American republic will decline."
Therefore, I submit that we cannot - must not - keep electing and condoning the status quo, but quickly recognize how very important it is to elect those who will reverse the direction our people, politicians, and nation have taken.

Hats off to Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt. She can take the heat. She's my kind a patriot.

McCain is a liberals' liberal. A war monger of the first degree. How about a boldface liar, as in telling the South Carolina voters that he has always been pro life. He hasn't got a clue what pro life means. He voted for Federal funding of stem cell research. To prove his ignorance, he followed up by saying he campaigned for human rights in Burma. What a clown!

The Democrats will have a tough choice. They will have two candidates in the race in November. However, Ron Paul is still in the race and the Convention is ahead of us. Anything can happen. You'd better believe it.

It is so much fun to watch the Maine RINOs from afar. You support Socialists like Snowe and Collins, traitors like Cohen and basically believe that the best way to fight Socialism is with more Socialism. So the solution of some is to go to the certifiable nutcase Paul. What a joke !!
It might be wise to remember that the last time the US felt good about itself, was respected and feared was under the Conservative Reagan.
McCain's no bargain either, but maybe the best idea is to get him in in 2008 and work towards getting him out in 2012 for a REAL Republican (ie:Conservative)

tytl, in what way is Ron Paul not conservative?

Reagan gave him the nod -

"Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country."
- Ronald Reagan

Jeff:

Reagan respected him. I like that but don't forget, even Rev. Wright served in the Marines, does that make him a true patriot ?

You may be right about the issues but he would have NO standing with the Congress to get any of it passed. He does not come off Presidential and is not respected by the House and Senate.

Stop the Don Qixote nonsense, use your energies on someone electable and look toward 2012.

McCain is not electable. He has nothing by skeletons in his closet that will continue to wreak, and he is totally unstable.

I'll be supporting Ron Paul all the way to the convention. Since writing-in his name in November would be considered just a spoiled ballot and not even counted, I'll then be voting for the Libertarian candidate.

The letter is at the above two links.

Also see the following video that shows how support for Ron Paul was blacked out by media.

I can't blame Americans for making an ignorant "choice" in McCain because that's all the media fed them. I'm doing my best to make sure Ron goes all the way. See you in St. Paul!

Any real conservative should stay home or even vote Democrat, no matter who their nominee is. Why? Because on the things that matter and are substantive, McCain is no different from Clinton or Obama, or worse.

Illegal Immigration? McCain has no problem with it.

Supreme Court? He's for Ginsburg, against Alito.

Freedom of speech? McCain-Feingold

Gun control? no real difference

Iraq? He will stay there, while the Democrats might leave.

Fiscal conservatism? Nope, he
wants to keep spending in Iraq (at $16 Billion per month for years)

Honesty/political scandal? Keating Five

Small government? See his support of housing bailout, and new financial market regulations.

I would rather have an enemy in the open, than a wolf in sheeps clothing.

And, with a Democratic President, and Democratic Congress, maybe the Republican party will see the need for true conservative reform.

They will not do so under a McCain presidency, but when that next Presidency fails (it will with any of them), then the Republican party will be blamed, so better for a Democratic president to fail.

Republicans ought to stand for something other than winning!

re- tytl

McCain is unelectable, and he's running on the platform of a president who has the lowest approval ratings on record (I'm no political analyst but that hardly seems like a formula for stunning success)... the Republicrats and their disastrous policies lost us control of both house and senate, if we want any chance of keeping the white house then we need to embrace our Republican values (small government, low taxes, maximum individual liberty/rights) and unite behind the only man who lives by them (that is not John McCain, not even close, read the letter and do the research)...

the truth is insaine mccain supporters do not really exist in the numbers presented by the main stream media, everyone knows the electronic voting machines have thousands of hacks and cracks in them by now... who the hell really knows who voted who? NO ONE! thats who. well, i know i voted RON PAUL!!! woo hoo!

Good for her. Finally a delegate not afraid to stand up and show their support for Ron Paul. The the real truth is, that every meda outlet has dubbed any Ron Paul suppoter as a "Paulite' a "Paulenteer' or a 'kook.' But at the Nevada convention in Reno, it was the McCain supporetrs being vile, unruly, obscence, disrespectful, and just downright rude. A good 2/3 of that convention were clearly Ron Paul supporters, and that my friends, is why they shut the convention down. For the GOP and McCain supporters to regroup, and find new ways of breaking laws so that the election can swing in their favor. Excellent work Charlotte Iserbyt. The work of a true patriot. Long live the revolution.

Some anon posted this above:
Ron Paul has "NO standing with the Congress to get any of it passed. He does not come off Presidential and is not respected by the House and Senate."

McCain said Ron Paul was the most honest member of the house. Someone help me with this quote, but a well-known figure referred to Congress as a gang of 400-something, with the exception of Ron Paul, he added.

The pigs on the farm also have no respect for you or me. So, who cares about Congress' respect. All that matter is "we the people." We revere Ron Paul.

As to passing legislation, once you get the popular vote, Congress better respect you, otherwise they're out of a job.

Some, like the anon above, would like us to believe that you win popular support by sucking up to Congress and the party's politburo. Well, guess what, things have changed since Ron Paul rode into town. We have been shown a better way. Ron Paul is the gold standard. We've had enough of these corrupt individuals the party smears off on us. Give me Ron Paul or give me death!

Thankfully at least Dr. Paul is trying to save us from the impending fascism that the two parties are bringing down on our heads. http://www.squidoo.com/american-fascism

Every election cycle it gets harder and harder to vote for ANY candidate, and when we finally have an honest one, he is marginalized and insulted.

I cannot vote for McCain! I won't vote for the democratic /communist ticket. If not Ron Paul then it leaves only third party. I can no longer offer my support to the party politics, no matter what it means.

- "You may be right about the issues but he would have NO standing with the Congress to get any of it passed. He does not come off Presidential and is not respected by the House and Senate."

I'd rather have an honest president who doesn't get bills passed by Congress than one that runs roughshod over the rights of Americans and thinks our Constitution is toilet paper.

It's funny how the GOP elite calls the Ron Paul Republicans interlopers, accusing them of wanting to takeover the party. How did they gain control of the party? Who gave them the "God-given right" to own the party for themselves? If they only realize how stupid and undemocratic their accusations against us are they'd shut up.

I remember during the early nineties, some folk from the Christian Right saying they will takeover the party, precinct by precinct. Perhaps they were successful to some measure, considering the support Huckabee received, but then they sold their souls to the neo-cons for a "place at the table." Look no further than Robertson's endorsement of Julie-Annie.

The neo-cons have the right to take over the GOP (currently entrenched). The Christian Right have every right to gain a foothold. Pity they are so easily duped. The Ron Paul folks have a right to gain the upper hand and dictate the agenda. My money is on the Ron Paul Republicans gaining the ascendancy. With that will come the restoration of our liberties and and a newfound respect for the Constitution. The GOP soreheads be damned!
