Superdelegate clarifies position, GOP to meet

Winthrop bookstore owner Rita Moran, one of the Maine Democratic Party’s 10 superdelegates, released this statement today to clarify how she intends to cast her vote.

“I believe that, as a superdelegate, I ought to represent those Mainers who went to their local caucuses on Sunday. I am not now pledged to a presidential candidate, and expect to remain unpledged until it becomes clear what other superdelegates will do.

Sixty percent of those who drove through the snow, who waited for hours on lines, and filled crowded rooms to declare their presidential preference at our caucuses voted for Barack Obama, while forty percent declared for Hillary Clinton.

I believe that the minority deserves a voice, as much as the majority does. If fewer than four Maine superdelegates pledge for Senator Clinton, I will join and become the fourth. If fewer than six Maine superdelegates pledge for Senator Obama, I will join them to represent the majority opinion which, I believe, deserves the majority vote.”

Augusta GOP to meet

The Augusta Republican City Committee and all delegates and alternates elected to the state convention will meet Monday at party headquarters, 9 Higgins St. in Augusta.

At 6 p.m., the city GOP committee will meet to review bylaws and recruit volunteers.

Then at 6:45 p.m., Augusta delegates and alternates to the state convention will meet to elect a delegation chairperson and perform other business, said city chairman Chuck Mahaleris.

I sincerely hope all of Maine's superdelegates will reflect Ms. Moran's reasoning. I think it would be shameful for them not to reflect the preferences of Maine voters.

If superdelegates are only going to serve as an extra state delegate, which they were not created to be, then we don't need them. They serve no purpose.

Super delegates should vote for the most qualified. I did not go, nor did many of my friends, attend the caucus. I frankly think that's a poor way to decide what the voter's want. We could have an unstopable ticket with Clinton-Obama. I stopped donating money to the Democrats last year, because Democrats were letting Bush get away with everything. We want to be heard.
Hillary is most qualified.

Dear Ms. Moran
I live overseas and cannot vote in the US as I am not American. However, Mr. Obama's message in your electoral campaign has been so powerful it has reached overseas to inspire many across a multitude of nations. He is re-establishing faith in your nation internationally and more importantly, the hope for all people to realise change through the ballot box. He has inspired me, from across an ocean, and I can only hope you do not miss the opportunity to elect a great leader. The US is a world power, and although we cannot participate in your elections, we can only hope you will choose well.
Thank you

Since February's caucaus, we have found out that Obama has belonged to a church who hates whites for 20 years. He has been influenced by this church, how could it be any other way. He had to pass many good churches to support this kind of hate. His circle of friends include william Ayres, bomber of our own federal buildings. I personally was a delegate this past Saturday and voted to seat Hillary Clinton's delegates. I think if the state knew the facts about Obama, when we voted, the outcome would have been reversed, and that is why she holds such a huge lead in the popular vote. He outspends her 5 to 1 and she keeps winning, and she has been taken off many of the polls and she still state to state leads in most of the polls taht matter in November. she has well over 300 electoral votes inthe states, and Obama has 245, how can he reach those numbers when Americans like me willnot vote for obama. She has the experience and will make positive change for the people of Maine, she supports the working class taht make less than 250,000. whereas, Obama has received an endless source of money from big business, that expect him to take care of them, as business as ususal. Please superdelegates switch to Hillary, You do have until Denver before your votes are seated, expect more negative and factual information to come our way about obama, and you have been warned by the press that he is not what he says he is.. If you want a democrat instead of a Republican in November, Hillary has won the states that swing to make that happen and still carries a lead over McCain. For my children and the future vote for Hillary.
