Did you see Hillary or Barack Saturday?
Calling all Democrats!
Or anyone who traveled to Bangor/Orono/Lewiston Saturday to see Sen. Hillary Clinton, Sen. Barack Obama or both.
What did you think?
A few quick thoughts:
Clinton’s 9:30 a.m. event in Orono gave those in attendance the chance to see her, hear her positions on several topics and get some level of detail about what she plans to do. We waited in line about 30 minutes outside before getting in, and once she got started, she delivered a polished and information-filled presentation. She took a few questions and answered them thoughtfully.
Obama’s afternoon event had the feel of a rock concert. We waited in line outside for two hours before we could get in, and once we did, it was a mad dash to the nosebleed seats with several thousand people. He was less detailed, and actually poked a little fun at those who criticize him for that by telling people to go to his Web site if they needed more information.
People seemed to adore him. The end of the speech featured a rousing call to believe in hope and not give in to cynicism.
So the question is this: Did either of them win votes (ie delegates) today? Will the huge crowd at the Obama event show up to caucus Sunday?
Speaking of caucuses, if you still need information on where to go, check out the party Web site at mainedems.org.
Dear fellow citizens of Maine, yes, please do go to Senator Obama's web-site and check on the very detailed policy information there on all his positions regarding health care, education, veteran affairs, energy, the war on terrorism and so forth. He has passed many significant legislative changes in Illinois and now in Washington, DC. He may draw enormous crowds, but he is no rock star. He is a brilliant Harvard-educated consitutional lawyer, a community organizer and policy wonk, AND an inspiring leader. Please vote for the best for our beloved country. Vote for Obama, vote to end the politics of cynicism and division, and move the US forward into the 21st century.

Obama didn't share specifics because he's never been in the White House and he's inexperienced. He's still serving his first term as Senator, while Hillary won a re-election and is in her second term. Obama doesn't want to make promises he knows nothing about. Hillary makes promises and has SPECIFICS. She knows how to help us with our health care, environment and is not afraid to tell us how. I shouldn't have to go to a website--I should be able to hear it from the mouth of our next President. I did on Saturday. I think Hillary is prepared and we all should caucus for her TODAY!!!!!

We went to see Hillary in Orono yesterday and were very impressed with her specific plans to turn our country around. She has big ideas and the plan to turn them into reality. This election is far too important to me than to risk my vote and our party's nomination to a one-third of one term, freshman senator who voted in favor of Dick Chaney's energy plan. He's been in the senate for two years and one of those was spent on the campaign trail for Presidency. Ask yourself who can beat John McCain and you quickly see that it will take a lot more than the sizzle of a popular speaker to beat the GOP in the general election. Where's the beef with Obama? It will take the less glamourous, but detailed approach to beat McCain. When the dirt comes out about Obama, and it no doubt will when the swift-boaters get done with him, we'll be devistated by the defeat. Ask yourselves how they will compare a war hero to a man who admitted to using recreational drugs in his youth? Hillary has the ideas and the experiance needed to work with the democratic Congress to pass her great ideas into reality.

I used to like Obama but over time I have been disappointed. I just don't see any substance to him beyond the ability to make a good speech. Checking a website is one thing, their staff writes those things anyway, but I want to know that the candidate his or herself is passionate about the issues.
Obama doesn’t seem to fully understand the issues and that makes me question whether he will truly work hard for us once in office.
His arbitrary timetable for withdrawal from Iraq? That seems politically motivated. I find Hillary's view to start a withdrawal but work with the Military and Iraqis on the timing much more reasonable.
His pledge to raise pay-roll taxes to solve Social Security funding shortfalls? Hillary's call for return to fiscal responsibility first is much more reasonable.
His health care plan is just disingenuous. Everyone who can afford health insurance will necessarily buy it? That’s so untrue as to be silly. In fact, the Wall Street Journal reports that most uninsured today could afford health insurance but choose to not buy it. Why the charade?
Also, he is the most liberal senator in 2007 as rated by the National Journal. Hillary was 16th. 32nd in 2006. I don't want the far left in the WH any more than I want the far right. Obama is winning young voters and the liberal elite in swing states like Missouri and New Mex while Clinton wins the moderates.
I believe that based on facts, and not rhetoric, Hillary will make the much better president.

Clinton or Obama ? What difference does it make, they are both Socialists. They will both trample all over the Constitution and use it for toilet paper.
PS So will McCain ! We are screwed !

Obama's policy initiatives are very detailed. I like him b/c he was against the war in Iraq, doesn't support giving Bush the authority to invade Iran, he plans to provide affordable healthcare for all by still giving us a choice in the matter, $4k/yr for every college student as long as they volunteer 10hrs/wk in national service, etc.
Hillary claims 35 years of experience. Ok, than why hasn't she CHANGEd the system by then? She's had 35 years, give someone else a chance!

I saw Hilary in Lewiston. I like her a lot, like her plan. Obama is very charismatic, but not sure if he can lead yet. I would like a Hilary/Obama ticket, though! And thank goodness for John McCain rep nominee victory! We are going to be alright either way. I'm registered independent, so have no real preference, except anyone but Bush! He has damaged our country more than the best candidate in the world could repair in 4 years...or even 8, but at least now we can stop the destruction of our wonderful country. That's what this election is all about.

Senator Barack Obama studied constitutional law at Harvard taught Constitutional law at University of Chicago Law School. He went on to be a civil rights Lawyer and now a Senator that has worked on campaign finance reform.
You would be doing yourself a disservice if you do not take a look at this man's website before voting. Not only are his plans detailed but are in the realm of probability. We all know that health care has not gotten changed in the past.
I trust that Barack Obama who has more experience than Abraham Lincoln will make these changes.
