No fanfare with Clinton endorsement
As endorsement announcements go, this was a low-key affair.
At 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign sent out a press release announcing that Gov. John Baldacci would support her bid for president.
There were a couple of quotes from Baldacci, with some background about his Dirigo Health program.
“It will take a leader with Hillary's strength and experience to bring the change that America needs," Baldacci said. "She will be ready to lead on her first day in office."
She thanked him for his support, and that was it.
“I’m honored to have John’s support, and I look forward to working together to bring our message of change across Maine and America,” Clinton said in the release.
Twenty minutes later, the Republican National Committee sent out its reaction to the news.
"Northeastern liberals endorsing northeastern liberals has been a long-standing mantra of Democrat primaries,” said spokeswoman Blair Latoff. “However, Governor Baldacci's endorsement won't repair Hillary Clinton's nose-dive in the polls or loss of trust amongst voters across the country."
In Maine, Democrats will hold their presidential preference caucuses on Feb. 10.
Hey Susan, Here is your leading Republican Fundraiser!
Giuliani? Romney? Guess again. How about Thompson? McCain? Huckabee?
For the answer, today’s (Dec 17) press release from Republican Presidential Candidate Ron Paul’s campaign is below. The most telling statistic is the almost 25,000 “first time” donors yesterday. I saw another report stating that over 100,000 individuals have donated to his campaign in the 4th quarter alone. While the other campaigns argue over the same big government policies and take votes from each other, Ron quietly continues to steamroll into the primaries/caucuses as the only true limited government, fiscally responsible candidate.

Ron Paul Raises $6 Million in One Day (12/17/07)
Candidate has most successful fundraising day in American political history
ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA -- Congressman Ron Paul’s presidential campaign had a record fundraising day yesterday.
In a 24-hour period on December 16, the campaign raised $6.026 million dollars, surpassing the one-day record of $5.7 million held by John Kerry.
During the day, over 58,000 people contributed to Dr. Paul’s campaign, including 24,940 first-time donors. Over 118,000 Americans have donated to the campaign in the fourth quarter.
The $6 million one-day total means the campaign has raised over $18 million this quarter, far exceeding its goal of $12 million.
"We have the right message: freedom, peace and prosperity," said Ron Paul 2008 campaign chairman Kent Snyder. "We also have the right candidate: Dr. Ron Paul."
