Vigue for governor?
It’s a bit early to be speculating about the next gubernatorial election, which won’t be held until November 2010.
But one of the people rumored to be considering a run — Cianbro President Peter Vigue — happened to be in the Statehouse Tuesday.
So I asked him about it.
He didn’t commit either way.
“I have a full time job and my primary responsibility is to make sure our company is successful on a day-to-day basis,” he said.
Vigue, who had just finished giving advice to a legislative committee on how to improve the state economy, then said he’s 60 years old and figures he has about 10 “very active years” ahead of him.
He said he’s a registered Democrat, but considers himself someone who works well with people of all political persuasions.
After his job, he said his second area of concern is the state.
“I’m in a very unique position,” he said. “I travel a lot. I see opportunity as well as challenges that exist.”
His third priority is the $1.3 trillion construction industry in the U.S., which he described as inefficient and not particularly environmentally friendly.
So does his list include a run for office?
“Not necessarily,” he said. “I’ve had people tell me I can do a lot more on the private side than on the public side.”
