Tractor-trailer accident closes Water Street
AUGUSTA — The northbound lane of Water Street/Route 104 has closed in downtown Augusta following a tractor-trailer's encounter with the train bridge.
The tractor-trailer rig driven by Solomon Abaynh, of Boston, became stuck when Abaynh tried to pass underneath the bridge, where a sign warns drivers of "low clearance." Augusta Police received the report of the accident at 1:19.
No injuries occurred. Wreckers were attempting to extricate the trailer at 2 p.m. this afternoon.

Whitefield bridges the next to undergo construction
The Maine Department of Transportation announced today that two bridges in Whitefield will be undergoing some much-needed rehab in coming months.
On the Albee Bridge, which crosses the Sheepscot River, workers restore the concrete foundation and install bridge drains, said spokesman Mike Eldridge. Due to the nature of the construction, wide loads will be restricted to no more than 12 feet in width, Elderidge said.
Coopers Mill Bridge, which also spans the Sheepscot, also will undergo a facelift. Eldridge said workers will restore the bridge’s concrete abutments and the main concrete support beam.
Both projects will start after Thanksgiving and are slated to last at least five months, given weather and water-level circumstances, Eldridge said. There also may be possible lane closures.

Expect stopped traffic on the pike tonight
The Maine State Police will be on hand again tonight to direct traffic on the Maine Turnpike near Litchfield. Crews are installing a beam on the Lunts Hill Road Bridge and traffic stops will be required from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and could last up to 25 minutes. A southbound lane also will be closed until 6 p.m. tonight.
Officials from the Maine Turnpike Authority said the bridge work will wrap up in a few weeks.
Things look smooth in the Augusta area for the drive home. Rain is expected tonight, according to the National Weather Service, but it shouldn’t come until people are home from work or school.

Gardiner-Randolph bridge almost open
Remember last week when there were high hopes we’d be driving on the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Bridge today?
Well, they’ve been dashed to the ground — at least until next week.
Overnight rains and foul weather have prevented crews from completing the paving and painting of the bridge that connects Randolph and Gardiner, said resident engineer Jeff Folsom.
“We were hoping it’d be done (today), but it looks like the paving will be pushed back to Monday and the painting will be done Tuesday,” Folsom said.
So, buck up, folks. By Wednesday, we’ll have our bridge back. Stay tuned for any changes in the schedule.
