Be warned: State Police will double fines in work zones

With the much-anticipated Memorial Day Weekend approaching, the Maine Department of Transportation is encouraging now more than ever for travelers to use the turnpike, as work on Interstate 295 will continue through the holiday.

The work will take place in the southbound lanes of the interstate in the Topsham-Brunswick vicinity, according to a release from Kati Benson of MDOT.

The travel lane (the right lane) will be the focus of the work, as will the “Exit 31A and B OFF ramps and 31 ON ramp in Topsham as well as the Exit 28 off ramp, which is the Route 1 bypass to Brunswick,” Benson said in the release.

For those who simply must take I-295, be warned: State police will have a heavy presence to enforce speed limits. Fines will be doubled in work zones.

The bottom line?

Be careful out there this weekend!
