Two more "one-way" signs added to Senator Way, but go unnoticed by some
If I had a dollar everytime I saw someone go the wrong way down the new Senator Way to Western Avenue, I would be ordering the seafood marinara at the Liberal Cup every night.
The traffic pattern — which converted the old Storey Street, a two-way, into Senator Way, a two-lane one-way — was changed nearly a month ago, but many motorists still disregard the blatant "one-way" and "do not enter" signs posted at the entrance of the road, as well as the new striping, designating a one-way road.
No accidents have been reported at the intersection yet, though many clips and near misses have been seen. One of the closest near misses was just yesterday, as a Jeep turned the wrong way and almost hit a dump trunk head on. Luckily, the Jeep screeched to stop in time and an accident was avoided.
New stores opening at the Augusta Crossing shopping center, combined with expected holiday traffic is sure to equal disaster.
Drivers who have been the victim of these near misses aren’t the only ones annoyed with those who don’t obey the signs; the Maine Department of Transportation is, too.
Two more “one-way” signs were installed today — one in front of the Senator Inn; the other in front of the Kennebec Journal.
Are you still stuck in the habit of using Senator Way as a two-way street? Do you think as the holidays get closer and more people shop at Augusta Crossing, the traffic will get more congested on Senator Way?
Let me know your thoughts.
